You fold it in half to get some height under your neck. You punch it back into shape at 2 a.m. You sink in until your face is half buried, and you turn just to find air.
You have tried memory foam. You have tried down. You have tried the firmness levels, the contoured shapes, the cooling gels. None of them held through the night.
So most mornings start the same way. A stiff neck. Tight shoulders. An hour before you feel like yourself again.
At some point you wonder if this is just what your forties feel like. It is not.
A buckwheat pillow, built properly.
Buckwheat does what foam and down cannot. It is firm where your neck needs support, and it moves with you as you turn, so your head stays in line all night. It breathes, so there is no warm hollow to escape at 2 a.m. And it keeps its loft for years, long after foam has caved and down has gone flat.
People in Japan have slept this way for centuries. Most of us in Europe just never met it.
Four kilos of organic buckwheat hulls. A washed European linen cover that softens with each wash. Built to keep its shape, so the support you fall asleep on is still there when you wake.
In Japan people have slept on buckwheat for centuries, and for a reason. If it is new to you, here is what we changed to make this one worth the switch.
Most buckwheat pillows lose their support by 3 a.m. A stitched inner chamber keeps the hulls under your neck, so they cannot drift to one side. You wake up where you started, not in a hole.
Unzip the inner shell and add or remove hulls until the height fits you. A refill pouch is in the box. Most brands charge extra for this. We do not.
You know exactly what is inside. GOTS organic cotton inner shell. Washed European linen cover. Organic buckwheat from EU farms. Certified to GOTS, European Flax and OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
Everything you unpack composts or recycles, nothing for the bin. Kraft pouch with a compostable liner. Kraft cardboard. Paper tape. Even the hygiene seal around the pillow is a compostable film, not the polybag most brands reach for.
Dagr is firm. If you sleep on your stomach, or if you prefer a soft cloud, this is not your pillow.
Buckwheat hulls make a soft rustle when you turn. Most people stop noticing within a week. Some never do. If you share a bed with a light sleeper, consider this.
We will not tell you buckwheat is allergy-free. The allergy is rare, but it is real. If you have a known buckwheat allergy, this is not the pillow for you.
We do not claim Dagr fixes neck pain. A pillow can support better sleep posture. It cannot replace a physiotherapist. If your neck hurts every day, see one.
If this honesty makes you trust us less, we have the wrong page in front of the wrong person. If it makes you trust us more, you understand what we are trying to do.
Eight quick questions and an honest answer. Even if it is no.
GOTS organic cotton. European Flax certified linen. EU organic buckwheat. OEKO-TEX Standard 100. Every standard named, none invented.
We know the morning where you wake up already tired, as if you still owe yourself hours of sleep, your neck stiff before the day has even started. We lived it for years. Then a buckwheat pillow, built the way we build ours, changed how we wake up. That is why Dagr exists. We found something that works, and we want to share it.

Reserve for €10Buckwheat is not a softer version of your old pillow. It asks a little of you in the first weeks, and it gives it back. Here is how to settle in.
It will feel firm, and it will rustle when you turn. That is the buckwheat, not a fault. Change nothing yet.
Unzip the inner shell and take out a handful of hulls until your head rests in line with your spine, not propped up. Add them back if you went too far. The refill pouch is there for this.
Most people stop hearing it after a few nights. Your ears learn to let it go, the way they do a clock in a quiet room.
Your neck and shoulders need time to settle into real support. Give it a month before you decide. This is a new way to sleep, not a new version of the old one.
For years I woke up with a stiff neck and a knot between my shoulder blades, and it followed me into the day. I went to physiotherapy for years. It helped while I was on the table, but the mornings never changed. I kept buying new pillows too. Foam, down, anything that promised support. None of them made a difference.
Then, eight years ago, I tried a buckwheat pillow because I had run out of other ideas. It was different. Firm where my neck needed it, cool through the night, and it did not flatten the way foam does. The mornings slowly got easier. For the first time in years, I woke up feeling like myself.
What surprised me was how few people in Europe knew about it. In Japan, people have slept on buckwheat for centuries. The ones I bought kept drifting and wearing out, so I set out to build one that lasts. EU buckwheat, a washed linen cover, a single supplier we can visit, and no plastic in the box.
